2011 Crossfit Year in Review Part Deux: The Products BLOG 2 weeks ago by surfanimal Thermoplastic polyurethanes (or TPU for short) are linear block copolymers made of alternating soft and hard pieces usually made out of diisocyanates, polyols and diol or diamine chain extenders. Basically, super awesome plastic that makes me PR my lifts. DEFCON 3 is a level of alert conditions in the DEFCON system (defense readiness condition) to gauge what level of preparedness our military, emergency, etc. services need to be. Alternatively, a really cool sounding term used in War Games while Matthew Broderick was hanging out in NORAD. |

SICFIT's 20 Most Influential in CrossFit of 2011 BLOG 3 weeks ago by Nick Hanson Justin's right. Not only is Kelly the person that makes stretching cool, he's also one of the few crossfitters who is actually getting respect outside of crossfit. Will Trujillo Winter open wod 1 2:44 COVERAGE SICFIT Presents - Life AsRx Winter Open You are definitely 5x the crossfit athlete I am but I dont think those pullups met the video standards," chin over and in front of bar", or I could just be misunderstanding them. COVERAGE SICFIT Presents - Life AsRx Winter Open Nice job however standards video show chin over and in front of bar.... majority of videos do not meet standards in my humble opinion. Will be interesting to see if those standards are enforced. |

COVERAGE SICFIT Presents - Life AsRx Winter Open Glad to see atleast some of those no reps called. Maybe its just me but seems like majority of submitted videos did not watch the standards. They clearly say, " chin over and in front of bar". As host affiliate standards should be Strictly enforced. In my humble opinion. |

In college, I trained for the 1600 meter for just one semester before my knee gave out, and I had to have reconstructive surgery. Being a spring sport, I never actually had the chance to run at a competition, even though I broke several PRs with running a 3:51:51. Reluctantly, in December of 2008, I had a total knee reconstruction, using cadaver ligaments to rebuild my knee, in hopes of returning for spring training. The doctors were skeptical, but said with determination and a bit of luck Iâd be able to run fast again. In January of 2009, I was sick and not getting better. After discovering I had a staph infection in the knee, a second surgery was required to clean out the infection. With a weakened immune system, I contracted a pseudomonas infection on top of the already growing staph. I never left the hospital after that second surgery. On January 3rd, I weighed 192 lbs., and on April 12th, I weighed 148 lbs. After four months of intense medical attention, I had to have a third surgery to remove the cadaver ligaments and hopefully rid me of infection before I got any worse or died. That surgery allowed the staph infection to reach the bone marrow through a screw in my femur. When the doctors realized this, I had two options and less than 8 hours to decide: amputation or a full knee replacement. Though replacement seemed the easy choice, metal knees only last 10-15 years in a well-behaved senior citizen; in a determined 18-year-old, it was more of a lease contract than a purchase. A replacement requires a bit of hollowing of your femur, which means one could only obtain a new knee once maybe twice in a lifetime. I basically had to choose an amputation at that time or at some point down the road. On June 1, 2009, I had a full knee replacement then continued intravenous therapy at home through a peripherally inserted central catheter or picc line. I was told simply walking would be my daily workout, but I was not okay with retiring at age 18. I transitioned from a recliner to crutches to a cane then a hobble. After six months of vigorous rehab and yoga, I attempted Crossfit for the first time. The bear complex was the wod, and I used the 45 lb bar for all five rounds. I physically could not lift myself out of bed the next day from being so sore. Showering didnât happen either. I started going twice a month, then once a week, and after about four months of that, I walked into the box on day one of my first in-house challenge. A six week Paleo/Crossfit challenge: One rep max dead lift and a tabata mash up for total reps. I committed to paleo and getting to the box four to five times a week. I started at a 300 lb dead lift and a 180 rep score on the mash up. Six weeks later, my dead lift went up 20 lb, and my reps doubled to a high 300! The rest, as they say, is history. I was hooked! My obsession grew rapidly, and I got my Endurance Certification only 9 months after trying my first workout. I started coaching in Dallas at Crossfit Deep Ellum a few months ago, and I have the amazing task to guide people from mediocrity to greatness through Crossfit. After two years of Crossfit, Iâm playing ball again, ran a marathon, and on January 21st, Iâll be competing in my first Crossfit Competition in Austin at The Fittest Games! From struggling to do the simplest movements in my first WOD to now, I push myself everyday to get just a little better. Crossfit has given me so much more than just health. Crossfit destroyed the odds of me ever having to use that damn cane again. There is no off season. - The Photo is of me at Fight Gone Bad 6 this past year. Score- PR- 405! |

PHOTO 4 weeks ago by Corey Buchanan Pictures truly can be a 1000 words, this was my 1st Xfit competition out in New Bruanfels ,TX and it was a major moment for me considering my injury playing college football the previous year. In 2010 I suffered a lunar dislocation&fracture to my left wrist which ended my senior season of college football. Following the injury my doctor mentioned to me although the injury will heal it will never be the same he also went on to say that chances are I wont be doing anymore Olympic lifting much less "Heavy Lifting" ever again. So in short, defnitely a major obstacle accomplish for me being it was my 1st front squat post-surgery and trust that I will be sending this picture to my Doc. -Godai Elements November 2011 - 355lb Front Squat - Photo shot by Tim Bougie |

PHOTO 4 weeks ago by Jeff Reed At the beginning of December 2010 I had major shoulder surgery to repair rotator cuff and bicep tendon tears. The doctor told me it would take approximately 1 year to be 100%. As such, I immediately had my focus set on the 2011 All Cities Open in Dallas, which is held each December. Throughout the painful and long recovery process, I remained focused on such goal and pressed on. This picture epitomizes all the work and dedication that went into recovering from surgery and ultimately being able to compete, as I needed every ounce of strength to get this 250# atlas stone over this railing. |

SICFIT's 20 Most Influential in CrossFit of 2011 BLOG 4 weeks ago by Justin Doran While I agree that everyone on the list deserves to be praised how can all these people come before Starret? I mean the guy makes stretching entertaining for f**cks sake! Look at every box, go to every crossfit cert, even the greater "paleo" community shows K-Stars' influence. We're definitely all in debt. |
